Much of the hoopla about ‘sweet sixteen’ has made girls, who are about to turn 16, start planning their birthday bash a year earlier. But, why should girls have all the fun? A ‘sweet 16’ party for boys is a unique idea which can be celebrated in ‘boyish’ way!
Do Guys Have Sweet Sixteens? Why not?! We agree that guys are not into fluffy, pinky cupcakes and flowers, which most girls find irresistible, but there are things that overpower boys turning to ‘guys’, which can be taken into consideration for celebrating their 16th birthday!
Birthdays are special! Be it the sixteenth or sixtieth, they are special. There need not be a year-specific reason for celebrating your birthday! Talking about the 16th one―there’s so much hullabaloo about girls’ ‘sweet sixteen’, that we actually forget to acknowledge that boys are turning sixteen too! This gets along with it a number a privileges―one of it being the privilege of getting a driving learning license permit! Another reason why the sixteenth birthday is special is, that though one is almost an adult, one has no responsibilities of an adult! If so many great things are to happen on the sixteenth birthday, both guys and girls should have an equal opportunity to celebrate it!
A few things need to be kept in mind while arranging a sweet 16 party for boys. First of all, find all the cute decorations you used for your fifteenth birthday and dump them! The birthday boy is going to be sixteen! He is going to find all those cute birthday decorations ‘girlish’ now! So, it’s better to have minimum decorations that look sporty. Secondly, take into consideration his opinions about the food, the theme, the guests he wants to invite, and everything else that will give him a feel of being ‘big’!
Sweet 16 Birthday Ideas for Boys
Rock Band Party
Guys of all ages are die-hard fans of rock music. So, the idea is to arrange a complete rocking party for them! Everyone except the birthday boy’s friends may need to lock themselves in a room to escape from the screeching noises! Give the party hall a discotheque look. Put those typical red-blue disco lights and a disco ball, and hire a DJ. Or ask someone from your family to do it for you. But be sure of the music you are going to play; it has to be hard core rock music.
Linkin Park, Metallica, Pink Floyd, Black Veil Brides, and Slipknot are a must! Cater them with mocktails and snacks. The birthday boy will be very happy with you because you actually allowed him to be in a discotheque!
Horse Riding
As the name suggests, arrange a picnic to a nearby race course or a farm. The birthday boy will love this daring sport and so will his friends. To make the party more interesting, you can keep a cowboy dress code for the invitees. The menu of the party also should be according to the party theme. Corn, bacon, steak, haystack cookies, etc., will go perfectly with the theme!
Beach Party
This is one of the classic party themes for sweet sixteens. Arrange a party on the beach. Leave them alone; let them enjoy the way they want to. You can arrange a volleyball game for the invitees. Some other beach games like sandcastle contest or mini golf can also be played. Do not take any food to the beach; instead prepare a barbecue there. Take loads of marshmallows with you and let the boys roast them. Everyone will thoroughly enjoy all the activities of this sweet sixteen birthday party!
‘Grumpy Old Men’ Party
Why limit the fun to indoors when you can have the ultimate guys’ day out? Ask all your friends to arrive at your place early in morning (like old men). Dress up in vintage-inspired ‘old man’ attire and head out to the local donuts shop. Find a corner, and read newspapers. Click pictures in these new ‘old man’ wardrobes. You can have a diner-style breakfast. Let the fun continue by playing golf.Ask them to flaunt in those faux pipes, and cough during important talks ;-).
Firefighter Party
Throw a firefighter birthday bash at your local station and have a fiery jubilation. You can make a visit to real firefighters if you wish to. You can hire plastic fire extinguishers, Dalmatians, fire-safety equipment, etc. Let him imagine the sound of the siren, the pressure of the (faux) emergency, and he’s right there, acting fearless and working like a firefighter! Have sizzling food items with fiery names like Flaming Hotdogs, Blazing Nuggets, etc. The cake can be a firefighter’s equipment!
Video Game Party | DDR | Guitar Hero
If your 16-year-old is a gamer, why not use this as the theme for the birthday party? Decorate the place with colors of your favorite video game. Guests get to play as well. You can take it a level higher by arranging a rock championship. All you have to do is set up a screen, lights, and music essentials, and let the competition begin! DDR players get to show their talent, while Rock Band lovers will showcase theirs. All in all, everyone enjoys the day playing games!
You can also take them for river rafting or trekking. Or going for watching a 3D horror movie with many pizzas can also be a good idea. In fact, anything that is not girlish will be great!
