Cowboy Candy BBQ Sauce

We all know that leftover Cowboy Candy syrup is liquid gold. Here is one way to use up your syrup by creating a mind-blowing spicy BBQ sauce!

This recipe does not use ketchup, as most do. It has simple ingredients and is VERY simple to make. You do not need a pressure canner or food processer/blender.

All you have to do is add all the ingredients to the pot and simmer. Yup, that’s all!

Once your sauce reaches desired consistency, you simply put in hot jars and water bath can them.

Use the BBQ sauce as a dipping or for, of course, some delicious BBQ meats. Yummmmm.

This spicy BBQ Sauce recipe is a great use for your leftover Cowboy Candy syrup and it is so good, you could just eat it out of the jar!

Servings: 7 half-pints

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Cowboy Candy syrup
  • 3 cups tomato sauce you can use commercially canned (29oz)
  • 6 oz can tomato paste
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1/2 cup worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup white vinegar or apple cider vinegar, if you prefer
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 tsp liquid smoke
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp smoked paprika if your cowboy candy recipe did not use any

Instructions

Cooking Instructions

  • Put all ingredients in a large pot and bring to boil, stirring often.

  • Reduce heat and simmer for 20-40 minutes, stirring often, or until your sauce reaches desired consistency.

Water Bath Canning Instructions

  • Ladle BBQ sauce into hot, sterile jars (half pint or pint), leaving 1/2 inch headspace.

  • Wipe rims clean with a damp cloth. Put lids on jars and bands FINGERTIGHT ONLY. Do not overtighten.

  • Place jars in prepared pot with a rack on the bottom, and simmering (not boiling) water that will cover the jar by at least 2 inches when all are submerged.

  • Place lid on pot and let the water reach a rolling boil. Boil for 20 minutes (adjust times for your elevation based on chart below)

  • Turn off heat and let sit for 5 minutes.

  • Carefully remove jars and place them on a towel on your counter. Let sit overnight or until completely cooled.
