A heart-stopping crash at Valentino Rossi's event left former MotoGP rider Mattia Pasini unconscious, but his fighting spirit remains unbroken. This incident underscores the inherent risks of motorsports, even in a seemingly friendly competition.
The recent 11th edition of Valentino Rossi's '100Km of Champions' dirt track race, held at his VR46 Ranch in Tavullia, brought together a star-studded lineup from the motorcycle racing world. Among the regulars at this event is Mattia Pasini, a seasoned racer with experience in both the Moto2 class and a stint in MotoGP during the 2012 season.
Unfortunately, Pasini's participation in the event took a dramatic turn on Friday, November 28th, when he was involved in a collision with 2014 Moto2 champion Tito Rabat. The impact of the crash rendered Pasini unconscious, necessitating an air ambulance to transport him to a local hospital as a precautionary measure. Thankfully, he sustained no serious injuries.
Pasini, speaking to Italy’s GPOne, recounted the details of the accident. He described it as an intense crash, resulting in a brief loss of consciousness. He explained that the accident occurred when he was following Tito Rabat closely. Rabat's bike became unstable as he accelerated out of the oval, causing his rear wheel to sweep out Pasini's front wheel. Pasini emphasized that it was simply bad luck and that he couldn't blame Rabat for the incident. He landed heavily on his left side, losing consciousness immediately.
But here's where it gets controversial... The quick response of the medical team, including Dr. Berardi and Dr. Lucidi, was crucial. They arranged for his rapid transport to the hospital, where he underwent thorough examinations.
Pasini shared that Valentino Rossi was greatly relieved upon regaining consciousness. Despite the scare, Pasini is determined to return for the 12th edition of the 100Km of Champions. He acknowledged the bruising and impact on blood vessels, but thankfully, nothing serious. He was discharged after two days.
Pasini's immediate concern after the crash was to apologize for his inability to participate in the main race. However, he also made it clear that he will be back on the starting grid next year.
The main race of the event was won by Pecco Bagnaia and Augusto Fernandez.
And this is the part most people miss... The story is a testament to the resilience and determination of these athletes. It also highlights the inherent dangers of motorsports, even in a friendly competition.
